Goal Setting for Kids

Useful to teach your kids and to use for yourself.

Other than things that our outside of our physical capability, most things are achievable with a simple process. Now, the step by step process may be simple but it does not mean that achieving things doesn’t require hard work and resilience.

STEP BY STEP

  1. WHAT DO THEY WANT?

This is where a vision board can be really useful. It gives them time to be creative and thing about things they really want. You must have a vision, dream or specific thing you want to achieve but it can be anything, big or small.

2. HOW WILL THEY ACHIEVE IT?

This is where you help them lay out all the items they need to accomplish in order to achieve their goal/vision. Most thing have been achieved before and there are clear steps or items that need to happen before you can achieve it. This could be a short term simple action plan or a multi year action plan. This could be helping them to plan how they can save up for a new guitar or helping them plan out how to become a lawyer.

3. WORK FOR WHAT YOU WANT!

Nowadays with a lot of “get rich quick” schemes and mindsets people are forgetting that the majority of the time success comes with hard work. It’s time to work on the items in their action plan. They may run into issues along the way, help them find work arounds and encourage them to be relentless for what they really want.

4. REVIEW AND REVISE REGULARLY

You should review their progress regularly with them, help them overcome hurdles, revise anything that needs revising and encourage them to keep going. This will help to keep them moving in the right direction; there may be times when you need to add, delete or edit the current action plan and that is ok. It’s better to revise than give up.
